World Hijab Day

Happy World Hijab Day!

Nazma Khan celebrated World Hijab Day for the first time, on February 1st, 2013. She is a Bengali American, a New Yorker, who was often felt victimized because of her choice of garment. Because of her efforts, New York recognizes World Hijab Day as an official holiday!

Hijab is a choice I made nine years ago. In the hopes of peace and solidarity, World Hijab Day is an opportunity for all to not only try wearing the hijab, but to also open up their hearts and minds to individual expression.

In honor of World Hijab Day, I decided to bring this celebration to Stockholm, Sweden. I gifted all of my female colleagues, hijabs, and copies of my first published poetry anthology about hijab, entitled, ´´Unveiled.´´ I will also be reciting my poetry for them in the evening.

My note to you all, ´´Thank you for your open heart and open mind. Happy World Hijab Day!´´
